Entertainment Law Panel

Motion pictures and television programs are produced by and distributed through the collaboration of many individuals and the typical film or television programs requires a knowledge of legal principles from a variety of legal areas such as corporate, securities, contract, intellectual property, state statutory and common law, tort, labor and employment and federal and state tax.  There are a variety of business forms and practices that are unique to entertainment. 

Robert Labate, one of Chicago's leading entertainment lawyers, Daniel Farris, and Carmelita Tiu will walk through the "Arc of Production" covering the following topics:

  • Introduction to Arc of Production
  • Copyright Act
  • Fair use on Copyright 
  • Introduction to film financing 
  • Production Issues - Writing and Talent - Part 1
  • Production Issues - Crew, Locations, other agreements
  • Delivery and distribution for film, TV and Internet

This course will count as CLE credit for lawyers. It is also geared towards independent film-makers looking to understand some of the legal aspects of film-making.
